The LaGrange Data Center

Powering the Possibilities of Tomorrow

Google partners with communities to customize each data center to fit the unique characteristics of each site and the needs of each community. With thoughtful planning, Google aims for the LaGrange Data Center to be part of the solution to grid modernization, energy affordability, and economic development.

Positive Power Impact

A shared belief that data centers should pay their own way.

Google pays for 100% of the electricity they use to power THEIR data centers; they cover any other direct costs associated with their growth; and they are constantly investing and implementing new energy technologies to help lower costs for all of us

When built responsibly, data centers can provide long-term, reliable electric demand, increasing utility revenue needed to support new energy infrastructure investments (transmission and generation) in a way that benefits all customers. We know rising energy costs are affecting U.S. families and businesses and we are commited to ensuring power remains affordable and accessible for LaGrange residents and businesses. A core part of Google's responsible growth strategy is ensuring that data center expansion does not burden local communities.

Investing in Local Energy Affordability

As part of its commitment to LaGrange, Google is providing $1 million to support Groundswell's SOUL® (Save On Utilities Long-term) program. This funding will deliver critical home safety and efficiency upgrades for local seniors and families, helping to lower energy costs and improve resilience.

“Google’s $1 million contribution will support critical home repairs and energy efficiency upgrades for at least 50 LaGrange families, providing long-term energy bill relief and preserving home ownership,” said Michelle Moore, Groundswell CEO. “We appreciate Google’s commitment to being a good neighbor, and we’re honored to work alongside them to build a more affordable energy future for LaGrange.”

Data Centers Aren’t the Enemy — They’re the Future

Bloomberg

For the areas hosting them, these centers can be a boon. For one thing, they lure tax dollars without consuming much in services; in Virginia’s Loudoun County, they generate nearly half of total revenue, funding schools, tax cuts and more. To support them, utilities often expand substations, add transmission capacity and build out new fiber, all of which benefits locals. Construction may be a pain, but it typically leads to better roads, waterworks, renewable capacity and much else.

It’s time for Grantville to say yes to data centers and to innovation

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

My primary responsibility as mayor is to ensure that the city of Grantville remains a place where families can afford to live and thrive. I am always looking for opportunities to improve our town and the lives of the people who live here. Frankly, I have grown tired of the noise surrounding one of the greatest economic engines available to us. We need to stop talking about data centers as if they are a burden and start recognizing them for what they truly are: technology campuses. A technology campus is a hub of innovation and technology can bring new jobs, make energy prices more affordable for our residents, strengthen our energy grid and improve quality of life for generations to come.
